Salt is an exploration of and one of the most common minerals we use that takes so many different forms, shapes and uses. This collection plays with the halite formations as bases for the silhouettes of the pieces and the bright prints are painted with watercolors and sodium chloride that distort that paint and creates fraying or corrosion on the paper like salt would corrodes metal or other materials. The textile graphics are painted from different salt mines like Lac Rose and the colors are based on the different salt rock colors. Prints are painted in watercolors with salt and placement printed with sublimation locally in Los Angeles.
This is Sasha's first collection and she learned pattern drafting and fashion sewing in 9 months while in Debut at FIDM. This collection C U R L Y is inspired by natural Black hair styles that are reflected in the silhouettes of the garments. Sasha hand painted all the prints and did the textile design from beginning to end for this collection which included putting everything into repeat, indexing and adding color ways.
